Brookdale Senior Living Launches Connected Living® in Colorado
QUINCY, Mass., Oct. 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Hundreds of seniors throughout Colorado are "connected" to the Internet, thanks to their senior living provider Brookdale Senior Living and its partner Connected Living®. The two companies today announced the launch of the Connected Living program at 12 Brookdale Senior Living communities in Colorado. The award-winning program helps residents at Brookdale Senior Living communities get online using a secure, easy-to-use Web-based social network, coupled with customized training and support.
"We encourage our residents to live their lives to the fullest and with purpose," said Sara Terry, Vice President of Optimum Life at Brookdale Senior Living. "Connected Living is an important part of that philosophy – our residents are now learning to use the Internet, email, and social media to be more connected and engaged. This program offers them the opportunity to stay connected with family and friends across the country and around the world during life's important milestones."
Connected Living helps seniors live richer lives through training in the use of technology. Using the Connected Living Network, Brookdale residents can engage in a variety of activities including creating a home page, emailing friends and family, sharing photos, surfing the Web in a protected environment, shopping online, recording stories and memoirs, and more. Ultimately, the residents will gain new computer skills, enjoy more frequent communications with family and friends, and benefit from the health advantages that come from increased social activity. Additional programming helps staff, friends and families enjoy the most benefits from the program.
"The Connected Living program combines technology, programming and people, which proves to be a winning combination," said Sarah Hoit, CEO and Co-founder of Connected Living. "Today there are nearly 19 million seniors in the U.S. alone that don't have access to technology. It is our mission to narrow that digital divide by including these valued members of society into the shared conversation, benefitting both older and younger generations."
