DELAND, Fla., May 24, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- With the population of Florida seniors living with Alzheimer's and dementia predicted to increase by 50 percent in the next 20 years, Brookdale DeLand is investing $8 million into its community. To meet the growing need, the senior living community is expanding its Alzheimer's and dementia care services and creating more than a dozen new jobs. Brookdale DeLand is located at 1210 North Stone Street.
Scheduled for completion in June, the project is creating 32 apartments that can accommodate 34 people living with Alzheimer's and dementia. The project also includes upgrades to the community's 42 assisted living apartments and an onsite therapy gym.
The Alzheimer's and dementia care community will feature the Clare Bridge program developed by Brookdale, the nation's largest senior living provider. Clare Bridge focuses on providing meaningful and purposeful daily life for those in dementia's middle to later stages through activities and events tailored to each individual.
"When new residents move in, we learn as much as possible about their life stories," said Juliet Holt Klinger, Brookdale's senior director of dementia care program development. "We design activities that meet their interests, stir their memories and match their current abilities so they can be successful in their daily lives. This provides our residents with a sense of purpose and accomplishment that raises self-esteem."
The expansion meets the evolving needs of seniors, especially those already residing at Brookdale DeLand.
"With the addition of Clare Bridge, we can serve more seniors and provide a greater range of services," said Lebana Prahl, executive director of Brookdale DeLand. "We are excited about enhancing the lives of our residents with updated accommodations and new amenities."
Brookdale DeLand is currently offering tours. Interested parties can call (386) 736-8100.
