The Summit, Washington's preeminent annual communications policy event since 2005, will be a critical forum at which the nation's leading broadband executives, regulators, and policy makers will debate the effect of the District of Columbia Circuit's April 6 Comcast v. FCC decision on net neutrality and on the Commission's ability to implement its National Broadband Plan. Early registrations include over 50 regulators and staff from the Federal Communications Commission itself and nearly a dozen representatives from the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO).
FCC Chief of Staff Edward P. Lazarus will open the Summit with a morning keynote address on Thursday, June 10. FCC Commissioner Meredith Attwell Baker will deliver the luncheon keynote later that day. On Day Two, Friday, June 11, Lawrence E. Strickling, Assistant Secretary for Communications and Information, National Telecommunications and Information Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce, will deliver the morning keynote address, and Ambassador Philip L. Verveer, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and U.S. Coordinator for International Communications and Information Policy, U.S. Department of State, will close the Summit with a noon keynote address.
In addition to interactive debates covering net neutrality and the ongoing broadband adoption and build-out initiatives outlined in the National Plan, this year's expanded Summit program includes forecasts from top Wall Street analysts, discussion by experts representing the broadband industry and broadband customers of the risks and rewards in the rapidly changing wireless environment, and exploration by experts from the broadcast and wireless industries of the pros and cons of migrating broadcast spectrum to wireless use.
