Broadband for America Statement on U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit Decision in the case of Verizon v. FCC
WASHINGTON, Jan. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Broadband for America released the following statement after today's decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia:
"In 2004, the Federal Communications Commission laid out a statement of Internet freedoms to guide policy. At that time, the members of Broadband for America (BFA) endorsed those freedoms, and have always abided by them. We have built our Internet services on this foundation of openness. Today's decision does not change that commitment. We believe passionately in the open Internet and in the right of our customers to access lawful websites and information when, where and how they choose. We pledge that our commitment to those principles will continue. In light of today's decision, we hope the Commission will continue to recognize that its own statement of Internet freedoms has worked as it intended, without creating the type of adverse impact that undue regulation of broadband can have on future investment, innovation and choice for consumers."
Broadband for America (BFA) is a growing coalition of more than 300 members ranging from independent consumer advocacy groups, to content and Internet service providers, to the companies which build and maintain the Internet. BFA promotes well-informed public policy choices to create the right incentives for the private sector to build advanced networks and offer innovative services throughout the Nation, and to encourage all Americans to adopt and use the broadband Internet. BFA believes that our economy, national security and future prosperity are dependent on a world-class broadband infrastructure.
