"We are excited to be offering this extensive wireless communications portfolio to our global base of buyers. The technologies offered provide a wide range of improvements and have the potential to boost efficiency in the areas of media streaming, instant messaging, online multimedia access, and wireless email security," says Dean Becker, CEO of ICAP Patent Brokerage.
Key Characteristics & Benefits
The portfolio for sale offers various techniques that are used in communication networks, and is an important group of assets for network and wireless communications service providers.
Improved techniques for streaming files – images, email attachments, and maps – to wireless devices are disclosed. The innovative technique enables the streaming of files directly as a vector image, enabling faster file streaming. Also, the technique may be implemented as both server-side and client-side rendering.
The portfolio also includes improved instant messaging systems. Traffic channel set-up at a message receiving device is initiated concurrently when a message, such as an audio file, is being recorded by the sending device, thereby reducing message latency. Additionally, an interworking gateway between different instant messaging infrastructures results in improved communication channels.
Techniques are also disclosed for accessing online multimedia through a proxy session. Therefore, multimedia access is maintained even when an IP-CAN bearer is disconnected. The network identity of the user is made portable; i.e., the network identity of a user remains unchanged even after switching the operators.
Finally, the portfolio includes various wireless email techniques, such as secure association of information with HTTP or HTTPS sessions, which reduce latency and increase network availability in a wireless email system, as well as protect privacy in group communications.
