Students Inspired by the Juilliard-Nord Anglia Performing Arts Programme Will Ride in Holiday Celebration
CHICAGO, Nov. 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The 24th annual BMO Harris Bank Magnificent Mile Lights Festival, the country's largest evening holiday celebration, kicks off the 2015 holiday season for Chicago and the nation on Saturday, November 21. Each year, more than one million people travel to The Magnificent Mile for an afternoon of family-friendly activities and live musical performances on the BMO Harris Bank Stage, followed by a magical evening tree-lighting parade down North Michigan Avenue.
This year, British International School of Chicago, Lincoln Park (BISC-LP) students who have benefitted from The Juilliard-Nord Anglia Performing Arts Programme will be honored for their music achievements in the classroom by riding down a trolley that they helped design especially for the tree-lighting parade. Many of these children recently serenaded Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for NewCity, a residential and shopping center across from the campus.
"Congratulations to all of you," said Emanuel of the choir performance. "That was very beautiful."
Still reeling from their success, BISC-LP students will trundle down The Mag Mile and share the spotlight with some of the country's most well-known personalities from pop-sensation Michelle Branch to Irish Tenors member Anthony Kearns.
"I'd like to see Michelle Branch," Guinness Melone, a Year 5 student, said. "She has a really good voice."
When asked what she thought of BISC-LP's music curriculum, including the opportunity to perfect her bucket drumming skills, Melone commented on why music's important to other students her age.
"It gives them a chance to be creative," she said. "And it gives them a chance to do things other kids might not have a chance to do."
British International School of Chicago, Lincoln Park is one of ten inaugural Nord Anglia Education schools offering this curriculum. Students have unparalleled opportunities to work with experts in and outside of the classroom. To learn more about the BISC-LP's music curriculum, please visit www.naejuilliard.com/bisclp.
