Bright Horizons Participates in White House Summit on Working Families
Bright Horizons CEO meets with Obama to discuss employer support for working families
Contributes to panel that discusses caregiving-related responsibilities
WASHINGTON, June 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Bright Horizons® CEO David Lissy is playing an important role at the White House Summit on Working Families today, contributing to a select roundtable discussion with President Obama on employers' roles in supporting working families and participating in a panel discussion on the impact of caregiving responsibilities on work.
The summit, which is co-hosted by the White House Council on Women and Girls, the Center for American Progress and the U.S. Department of Labor, is convening businesses, economists, legislators, advocates and citizens for a discussion on issues facing working families and the importance of creating a 21st century workplace that works for all Americans. The President, Vice President, First Lady Michelle Obama, and Dr. Jill Biden are all participating in the summit.
"It is an honor to be a part of an important event focused on the critical issues and challenges faced by working families across the United States every day," said Bright Horizons CEO David Lissy. "For nearly three decades, we have been working with leading employers who have taken these issues seriously and have built supportive cultures that help working parents both manage their family responsibilities and remain productive and focused at work. In 2014, supporting working families is not just a 'nice to do' but rather a 'must do' for employers looking to sustain competitive advantage within the markets in which they compete. It is good for the employee, the employer, the family and our nation as a whole."
Lissy is among a handful of employers participating in a roundtable discussion with President Obama following the keynote address delivered by the President. Lissy is also contributing to a panel on caregiving, which is exploring the care responsibilities facing today's working families, the ways families balance their care responsibilities with their career, and the types of supports that facilitate the dual caregiver-breadwinner role more women and men are increasingly playing.
Bright Horizons is also the official child care provider for the summit. More information about the summit and issues faced by working families can be found at WhiteHouse.gov and WorkingFamiliesSummit.org.
