MILWAUKEE, Nov. 2, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Briggs & Stratton Corporation's new retrofit module is a money-saving solution for homeowners in need of replacing broken and/or aging standby generator systems. The retrofit module connects a new Briggs & Stratton® generator to the existing installed transfer switch, enabling the two units to communicate when power is needed to the home.
Until now, a homeowner was forced to replace not only the standby generator, but the transfer switch as well, which required a technician to remove the existing wiring and replace it with a new unit. A transfer switch must be compatible with the standby generator to seamlessly and automatically move a home's power from utility power to backup power in the event of an outage. The retrofit module eliminates the need for a new transfer switch and costs less than $100.
"Customers told us they wanted to replace their existing standby generator with a new Briggs & Stratton unit," said Brian Northway, product manager for Briggs & Stratton standby power. "However, this would require that a professional replace the generator and the transfer switch, which is time intensive and can cost over a thousand dollars once you factor in the cost of the transfer switch and installation labor fees. The retrofit module is the solution to that problem."
Unmatched Warranty
The retrofit module is backed by a two-year part, labor and travel-limited warranty1. Briggs & Stratton standby generators range in size from 8kW up to 200kW2, so homeowners won't have trouble finding the right-sized generator to power their home's needs. All models come with a standard five-year or six-year parts, labor and travel limited warranty1 based on the model chosen. The warranty extends to cover the entire standby generator system, including the transfer switch. Many other warranties on the market only cover the generator unit for the lifetime of the warranty.
The retrofit module is compatible with most standard residential transfer switches. Dealers with interested homeowners are encouraged to contact the Briggs & Stratton support team to verify compatibility between the home's current transfer switch and the new Briggs & Stratton standby generator.
