Brian Stephens Named to Lead KPMG's Banking and Finance Practice
NEW YORK, March 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- KPMG LLP, the audit, tax and advisory firm, today announced that Brian Stephens has been named national leader of the firm's Banking and Finance practice. Stephens, who is based in Washington, succeeds Tony Anzevino, who is assuming a global client leadership role.
In his new role, Stephens will be responsible for the strategic direction and growth of the Banking and Finance practice, which serves commercial banks, regional and community banks, investment banks and securities firms, and diversified financial companies.
"Brian brings great credentials and a wide range of national and global industry experience to this role, having a proven track record of serving our clients as they face some of their most significant opportunities and challenges," said Scott Marcello, national leader of KPMG LLP's Financial Services practice.
"Tony Anzevino, who has worked closely with Brian for years, has been an exceptional and passionate leader of KPMG's Banking and Finance practice, which is poised for continued growth and success as a result of his many contributions," added Marcello.
Previously, Stephens served as the national client leader for the Banking and Finance practice. He has 32 years of experience in the banking industry serving large multinational and national banks, as well as other global financial services institutions.
"Our Banking and Finance practice has a great brand due largely in part to the hard-working and talented team of professionals serving our clients, and I look forward to helping this team bring all aspects of our firm's capabilities to our clients as they look to grow, streamline operations, effectively deploy capital and take other steps to improve their businesses," said Stephens.
Stephens began his career with KPMG in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1979. He was elected to KPMG's South African partnership in 1987 and to the U.S. partnership in 1993.
He earned a Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) degree from Rhodes University in South Africa and is a Certified Public Accountant in Connecticut, Illinois, New York, and Washington. He serves as a member of the board of trustees of World Learning.
