As a private, nonprofit institution established by the state of Missouri, WGU Missouri works in partnership with its parent institution, Western Governors University. The Advisory Board is comprised of individuals who reside in Missouri and provide guidance on the most effective ways the university can meet the core mission of economic development in the state.

McCoy is currently the Vice President, Business Development & Commercial Lending for OakStar Bank. Previously, he served as Vice President, Membership with the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce from 2006–2015. Prior to the Chamber, Brent spent years in association management working with an executive management company which managed three professional membership associations.
McCoy serves locally on the Child Advocacy Center Board of Directors and will be the 2016 president of the board. He is the past president of the Rotary Club of Springfield Sunrise; member of the Springfield Business Journal's 2010 40 Under 40 class of honorees; and was recognized by the Springfield Business Journal as one of their 2014 Men of the Year.
He is a cum laude graduate of Missouri State University and Institute for Organization Management graduate with the University of Arizona.
