AKRON, Ohio, Oct. 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Ann and David Brennan are Summa Health's first eight-figure donors with their latest gift of $6 million, the Summa Foundation announced today at a ceremony held at the Akron Art Museum.
Prior to today, the Brennans had donated more than $4 million to a number of priority initiatives at Summa Health, including the Ann and David Brennan Critical Care Center at the Summa Akron City Hospital campus. Combined with their most recent gift, the Brennans' total giving to Summa now exceeds $10 million and earns them the distinction of being the health system's first Visionary-level benefactors.
"I have been fortunate to witness a lot of changes in healthcare during my lifetime, and we certainly are seeing a lot of change now. But one thing has always been consistent: Akron has high-quality, locally controlled healthcare," said Ann Brennan. "David and I want that to remain true for generations to come."
The $6 million gift made public today represents the largest single donation in Summa's history. It will be used to further Summa's strategy of becoming the region's leader in population health management and improving the well-being of all the lives in its care.
"The Brennans' generosity to Summa extends beyond financial gifts. They have lent us their time, expertise and encouragement for many years," said Summa Health President and Chief Executive Officer Thomas A. Malone, MD. "Today's announcement reflects their commitment to keeping Akron-based healthcare strong and at the leading edge of our rapidly changing industry."
"We're pleased to support Summa during this extraordinary time in the health system's history," said David Brennan. "With the success of its Accountable Care Organization and leadership in population health, Summa is poised to make Akron a national leader in the delivery of health care."
Ann Brennan is widely known for her civic leadership and business acumen, serving on numerous community boards. She is a Past Board Chair of Summa Health System and Past President and Trustee of the Summa Foundation Board, chairing the Summa Critical Care Campaign. She is currently a member of the Women's Board of Summa Health and the Summa Foundation Circle of Women's Health Philanthropists.
David Brennan was one of the founding members of The Brenlin Group, which purchased numerous manufacturing companies and became Akron's largest privately held company.
