"A dynamic organization with robust media offerings designed to serve directors and aspiring directors needs professionals who understand not just how the boardroom functions, but how to infuse directors with the knowledge they require to be effective. Brendan is such a professional and we are delighted that he has joined NACD," said Kenneth Daly, president and CEO of NACD.
In addition to his new responsibilities at NACD, Sheehan will maintain his position teaching corporate governance at New York University, where he is also working to create an ethics and governance course for nonprofit organizations.
In 2010, Stanford University recognized Sheehan's achievements by voting him one of the top 15 business journalists in the U.S. and awarding him a Stanford Media Fellowship.
"Brendan brings a rare combination of leadership, journalism and analytical skills that will be tremendously useful in helping directors deal with the challenges facing today's boards. His involvement with the corporate secretary community is also key to NACD's enhanced outreach to that important board director constituency," said Jeffrey M. Cunningham, NACD managing director and senior advisor.
Sheehan also worked in London as a senior analyst for BoardEx, where he was responsible for analyzing and reporting on corporate governance and board dynamics at U.K., U.S. and other international companies. His other professional experience includes serving as a senior capital markets analyst at MCM Corporate Watch, specializing in European high-yield, emerging markets and asset-backed securities.
Sheehan will be based in the New York office of NACD.
In his new role, Sheehan will add his talents to the upcoming NACD Directorship Forum, Driving Board Innovation, being held May 23-24 in New York. Designed for directors, C-suite executives and strategic thinkers who want to enhance their boardroom effectiveness, the Forum provides practical support for attendees to inform their own boards and hear what is on the mind of world-class boardroom leaders.
