Brendan J. Dugan Appointed to the Board of Investors Bank
SHORT HILLS, N.J., Oct. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Demonstrating its significant presence in the New York market, Investors Bank has appointed Brendan J. Dugan, President of St. Francis College in Brooklyn, to the Bank's Board of Directors. Mr. Dugan joined the Board in August 2013, which has now been expanded to 11 Directors.
In announcing the appointment, Investors Bank CEO Kevin Cummings said, "Brendan brings to our Board an impressive set of skills, wisdom and foresight which he developed over a lifetime as a leader of several large banking companies and an institute of higher learning. He is also deeply committed to serving many New York City communities through his leadership in the nonprofit sector, business associations, and organizations that shape government policies."
Before taking on the role of President of St. Francis College, Mr. Dugan held senior executive positions at commercial banks during his 40-year career in banking. He completed his banking career as Chairman and CEO of Sovereign Bank's Metro New York and New Jersey Division. Mr. Dugan joined Sovereign as it acquired Independence Bank, where he served as a senior executive from 2003.
Prior to joining Independence, Mr. Dugan held a number of senior banking positions. He was Chief Operating Officer of Citibank Commercial Markets (2001-2003), President of European American Bank (1991-2001), and President and CEO of NatWest USA (1974-1991). While at each of these institutions, Mr. Dugan helped develop and implement growth strategies in the areas of Commercial and Retail Banking, Leasing, and Real Estate Lending.
Speaking about his position on the Bank's Board of Directors, Mr. Dugan said, "I am very grateful for the opportunity to advise and serve Investors Bank, which continues to develop and build relationships with communities across New York City. In addition, Mr. Dugan is actively involved in the community. Currently, he is board member of the Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Partnership, The Commission of Independent Colleges and Universities and the Futures in Education Endowment Fund. He also serves on the Finance Council of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn. In the past, he was active with the New York Bankers Association and was a member of its Board and the Legislative Policy Committee.
For his service to many communities, Mr. Dugan has been honored by the Greater Jamaica Development Corp., the Anti-Defamation League of B'Nai B'rith, Helen Keller Services for the Blind, the Crohns and Colitis Foundation, the American Jewish Congress, Neighborhood Housing Services, Good Shepherd Services, Touro Law School, the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, the Brooklyn's Children Museum, The Boy Scouts of America, and Brooklyn Legal Services Corp.
In June 2009, Mr. Dugan was inducted into the Pontifical Order of the Knights of St. Gregory the Great by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI.
