Breast Cancer Awareness Advocate Dr. Kiya Movassaghi Participates in the Eugene 2012 Race for the Cure
Movassaghi Plastic Surgery & Ziba Medical Spa support breast cancer research and patient support
EUGENE, Ore., Oct. 3, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- A team from Movassaghi Plastic Surgery & Ziba Medical Spa will participate in the October 21, 2012 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, benefiting the world's largest grassroots organization dedicated to ending breast cancer.
One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during her life.
Dr. Kiya Movassaghi, a board certified plastic surgeon, will be joined on the team by patients, family, and friends while raising funds for the third annual Eugene Race for the Cure. Dr. Movassaghi's commitment extends beyond the event and into his everyday practice.
"It is extremely important to me," says Dr. Movassaghi. "I educate my patients about breast health and screening and their options for reconstruction surgery when necessary after cancer treatment. We are proud to support Komen's efforts on the path to a cure and all that the organization does for patients and survivors."
Dr. Movassaghi has been an advocate for involving a plastic surgeon early in the treatment process for breast cancer, as he feels it can lead to a more successful breast reconstruction for the patient. Dr. Movassaghi performs a variety of breast reconstruction procedures, some of which are performed immediately after mastectomy.
Team Movassaghi has established a $5000 goal for the day, with more than 70 team members participating in the various races. The Eugene event will include a 1-mile walk, a 5K-walk, and 5K- and 8K-runs. More than 7000 participants are expected to take part in the fundraiser, held at Autzen Stadium. Susan G. Komen for the Cure funds research into breast cancer; supports community programs that provide education and screening for low-income women; and provides financial support for breast cancer patients. The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure involves more than 1.7 million participants each year and has raised more than $1 billion to fight breast cancer. Held on five continents, the annual fundraiser includes a variety of fitness events.
