SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Feb. 1, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On February 8, the Center for Healthcare Innovation (CHI) welcomes healthcare professionals and patients to join our 2nd annual Breakthroughs in Healthcare Equity Symposium, the leading event for healthcare professionals, patients, researchers, technologists, healthcare and life science executives, and diversity and inclusion advocates to discuss equity in healthcare. Register and learn more at http://chisite.org/bhds.
The symposium brings these groups together in a collaborative forum to create networks, discuss best practices, and exchange new ideas on making healthcare more equitable for all, with a focus on understanding how to serve underserved patient groups, including racial and ethnic minorities, women, and the LGBT community. The symposium will also focus on helping organizations with the latest ideas and insights on how they can become more diverse to better understand the unique needs of the patients they serve.
"We continued to be alarmed by health disparity data in the U.S.," said Michael Rosen, Board Chair of CHI. "African American children have a 500% higher mortality rate from asthma compared to white children. And the rate of diabetes is 77% higher among non-Hispanic blacks, 66% higher among Hispanics, and 18% higher among Asians than non-Hispanic whites. Considering that minorities are estimated to outnumber White Americans by 2044, the need to eliminate health disparities and make our U.S. system more equitable for all is essential."
CHI hopes to inspire and energize attendees through a unique, collaborative approach. The symposium will focus on diversity in clinical trials, how diversity impacts organizations, and the future of diversity in healthcare, as well as a Keynote Address by Ms. Ricki Fairley, Chair of Trustees for the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation and Stage 3A Triple Negative Breast Cancer Survivor/Thriver.
Those interested in attending can reserve a seat by visiting http://chisite.org/bhds.
