Breakthrough Technologies Named SIIA Education CODiE Award Finalist for Best Student Assessment Solution
NCSC Assessment Technology System earns prestigious education industry recognition
WASHINGTON, April 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Breakthrough Technologies today announced that the National Center and State Collaborative (NCSC) Assessment Technology System was named a finalist for the 2016 SIIA CODiE Awards in the Best Student Assessment Solution category. The SIIA CODiE Awards are the premier awards for the software and information industries, and have been recognizing product excellence for over 30 years. The awards offer 91 categories that are organized by industry focus of education technology and business technology.
The NCSC Assessment Technology System was named as one of the 160 finalists across 29 education technology categories. Breakthrough Technologies partnered with the NCSC to develop an online delivery platform for a new assessment program for students with cognitive disabilities. The NCSC alternate assessment evaluates knowledge of Common Core Math and ELA (reading and writing) standards at grades 3-8 and 11. It includes 30–35 items for each subject, mostly selected-response, as well as one writing prompt per grade, allowing multiple modes of response and direct student input to online test, or teacher-entered responses. Measured Progress provided the content.
"The NCSC Assessment Technology System is playing a key role in helping to update and strengthen the way educators assess and teach children with cognitive disabilities," said Doug Wilson, Managing Partner at Breakthrough Technologies. "We are wholly committed to pushing forward the use of open-source technologies in education and are honored to have our efforts recognized by the CODiE Awards."

Winners will be announced during an award ceremony on May 18. The top honor of best overall educational product will be presented at Education Industry Symposium, the nation's leading education technology conference, in Denver July 26. The announcement will take place during a special celebration party and dinner.
