SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Breaker Inc. ("Breaker"), the creator of the #1 social podcast app for iOS, released Breaker Upstream, the first marketplace for podcasters to sell premium content directly to their listeners.
Available today in the App Store and on the web at www.breaker.audio, Breaker Upstream is an entirely new monetization model for podcasting.
Listeners will now be able to subscribe to special premium podcasts and purchase individual episodes instantly on Breaker. Purchases can be made in the app with just a tap, or in the web player with a few quick clicks. Gone are the days of leaving your podcast player to navigate to a patronage platform to make a donation.
"Podcasters told us traditional methods for monetizing their podcasts just weren't working," said Breaker CEO Erik Berlin. "Small podcasters have a hard time securing advertisers with a small audience, and larger podcasters felt that they were leaving money on the table when relying solely on advertising deals or voluntary donations."
Today Breaker is launching with several podcast partners: Developer Tea from Spec, Fit Because, and 20 Minute Fitness have all released exclusive content, available now on Breaker.
"I'm really excited about using Breaker Upstream," said Sarah Jackson, CEO and co-founder of the podcast network Spec. "This platform is going to open up a brand new revenue stream for our hosts and improve the quality of content we're providing to our most passionate listeners - its a win-win!"
Podcasters using Breaker Upstream will still be able to maintain their public, ad-supported podcasts, if they choose. Episodes hosted on Breaker Upstream will simply be inserted into the existing podcast on the Breaker app and on the Breaker website.
"We're not here to close off the historically free and open nature of podcasting," added Berlin. "What we've done is create an opportunity for podcasters' biggest fans to get more of the content they crave and provide podcasters with another tool to make their businesses sustainable."
Podcasters interested in joining the platform can do so now at https://www.breaker.audio/i/upstream.
