Brazilian Manufacturer Opens New Plant in Texas

EDINBURG, Texas, June 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Santana Textiles, a Brazilian denim manufacturer, recently completed development of a 33-acre facility in Edinburg, Texas.  The new plant will house the company's spinning and weaving operations and storage warehouses, along with its 800 employees.  The Edinburg facility will be Santana Textiles' largest, and will produce high quality denim lines for fashion designers.

"The fact that a Brazilian manufacturer chose to build their newest plant here in Rio South Texas will come as no surprise to those who understand this region," says Raudel Garza, Executive Director of the Rio South Texas Economic Council (RSTEC),  "Rio South Texas offers everything companies are seeking in these challenging economic times."

Rio South Texas boasts a young labor force, low cost of living and an ideal geographic location for manufacturers and distributors.  One distributor which has taken advantage of the opportunities offered by the region is Bland Distribution Centers in Donna, Texas. Bland is expanding operations to encompass a total of 100,000 square feet of total storage, bringing storage capacity to 3,100 pallets. They have been at full capacity since December 2010.

The booming Rio South Texas economy has also caught the eye of major retailers. Construction for the latest Bass Pro Shops is underway in Harlingen, Texas. Work began on this  150,000 square foot destination in March, and is due for completion by the end of 2011. "These projects equal jobs in our communities," says RSTEC member Bill Martin, President, Harlingen EDC, "more than 250 employees will be needed to staff the new Bass Pro Shops location, and that will continue to boost the economy in turn."

Breaking new ground is an uncommon scene in many markets today, yet has become commonplace in Rio South Texas as emerging companies open new facilities and existing companies continue to expand.
