Brandon Frere Suggests Being an Inspiring Leader to Differentiate One's Business
PETALUMA, Calif., Oct. 22, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Many businesses try to lead through logic without inspiring others. For the purposes of this article, "leadership" is anything that convinces clients or employees to follow. Logical leadership is done with skillful management, great timing and good deals. Using limited-time offers, sales or bonuses to compel someone into performing a specific role are all examples of logical management. By comparison, inspiring leaders and companies set a path that others want to follow. Entrepreneurs can be inspiring by consistently reflecting a feeling or belief held by their followers. Brandon Frere, CEO of Frere Enterprises and other ventures, thinks that there is no reason that a company shouldn't try to be inspiring as well as logical.
"A company needs to ask itself why it exists. That question should be answered with a real feeling or belief," said Frere. "Many of my companies exist to be advocates for fairness, another exists to help its members gain freedom through mastery of the financial game."
When entrepreneurs know why their company exists, they can differentiate their company from their competition. To figure this out, an entrepreneur needs to analyze the core belief or feeling that makes their followers care about them in the first place. Whatever answer they discover reveals the primary value of their business, and it is the primary way a business carves out an inspiring identity.
The pursuit of inspiration shouldn't stop companies from using logic. Logic is successful management and it is a multiplier for whatever the company can accomplish. Inspiration can lead to a clarified vision, a differentiated company and people who understand the company's beliefs. Good management can optimize whatever resources a company has available to them in the most efficient manner. If inspiration steers, then logical management navigates.
"To be a leader, you should share your vision of a better world," said Frere. "A strategy is essential, but it is only useful if people care about the cause. In order to get others to love what you do, you need to explain why you do what you do. Convince people that your company not only has value but also represents a value."
