Brand New Product Contributes To Patient Rehabilitation After Limb Loss
Orfitrans® Medium Soft material completes product range
ANTWERP, Belgium, Sept. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Orfit Industries has extended its already impressive orthotics product range with the innovative "Orfitrans® Medium Soft", made of stronger thermoplastic material offering optimal patient comfort.
The ORFITRANS® Medium Soft, to be used for both prosthetic transtibial (i.e. below-knee) check (or diagnostic) sockets as well as for lower limb orthoses, developed by Orfit's own R&D team, completes the Orfitrans® product range of high melting temperature thermoplastic materials for the production of external prosthetic check sockets.
In a comment, Steven Cuypers, CEO of Orfit, said : "We believe that this new product will help to alleviate pain for all those affected by limb loss and will help them to resume normal life as soon as possible."
Sensitive to market needs, Orfit has succeeded in developing "Medium Soft" inner socket material two times stronger than its commonly used materials. The new Medium Soft version can be submitted to pressures of approximately 75 MPa (megapascal, equivalent to 750 bar).
The new Orfitrans® Medium Soft is available in sheets of different sizes and thicknesses (5/16", 3/8", 1/2", 19/32") depending on the patient's physical condition. The material is considered to be rigid enough to give control and, simultaneously, offers sufficient flexibility to allow a certain range of motion. Muscle movement, sometimes to be avoided, sometimes allowed, will also depend on the EVA-concentration level, i.e. strength of the used material.
Another benefit of the Orfitrans® Medium Soft is that it deals with the effects of cold flow once and for all, meaning that no deformation will occur and that the socket will keep its shape over time. Donning and removing the socket is easy, due to the smoothness of the material, and without requiring talcum powder.
