NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J., Sept. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey (BIANJ) is proud to announce that The Allstate Foundation has awarded a $30,000 grant to support BIANJ's 5th Annual 'U Got Brains Champion Schools Program' – a contest challenging New Jersey high school students and teachers to develop fun and interactive campaigns aimed at educating teens about the importance of safe driving.
Since 2011, The Allstate Foundation has awarded nearly $100,000 to the program to help empower students to take a positive approach in addressing the number one cause of death and disability among teens.
"In New Jersey a teen driver crashes every ten minutes," states Wendy Berk, BIANJ's Public Education Coordinator. "BIANJ is proud of its continuing relationship with The Allstate Foundation and the progress we have made to change this statistic."
"The Allstate Foundation is proud to be associated with this great program because we understand how important it is to empower teens to become smart driving activists in their schools and communities," said Rich Crist, President of Allstate New Jersey Insurance Company.
Over the last four years, over 100 high schools in 21 counties throughout the state developed campaigns addressing every aspect of teen safe driving through powerful public service announcements, music videos, local, state and national partnerships and engaging their parents. "Each year, we've been amazed at the effort and creativity on the part of the students and staff at the participating schools," states Barbara Geiger-Parker, BIANJ's President and CEO. "It's encouraging that so many schools are becoming a key component in the development of safe young drivers."
This year's deadline for schools to apply is November 14, 2014. To learn more or apply, visit www.ugotbrains.com/champion-schools.
