Bradford Health Services' A Reprieve for Women is a six-month 12-step program of recovery, life skills development, career exploration and college readiness. Because addiction separates individuals from self, from spirituality and from others, the Bradford staff seeks to create a caring environment while using recovery tools to assist these women in becoming productive members of the community. The program helps each woman create a blueprint for recovery through intensive personal work.
Adam Downs, Ph.D. and licensed marriage and family therapist, helped to create the program. Prior to coming to Bradford, he was the director of Substance Abuse Services at the University of Alabama. Downs received his undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University, with research and clinical interests in the study of substance abuse and addiction studies. He received his doctorate in human development and family studies from Michigan State University.
