Bracewell & Giuliani Adds Litigator and Former Patent Examiner Jonathan R. Spivey to IP Practice

HOUSTON, Oct. 11, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Bracewell & Giuliani LLP announced today that Jonathan R. Spivey has joined the firm's Houston office as a partner in the firm's intellectual property litigation practice. Prior to joining the firm, Spivey was a partner in Foley & Lardner LLP's IP litigation practice and chair of the firm's Chicago IP department.

Spivey will focus his practice on counseling clients in a variety of industries, including mechanical, electrical, computer technology, and software arts, on complex patent, trade secret, copyright, and unfair competition litigation and appeals. He brings broad IP knowledge to the firm, previously serving as a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and playing a key role in numerous litigations involving patent, trademark and copyright infringement, Internet domain disputes, mergers and acquisitions, and patent prosecutions.

Before his legal career, Spivey worked as a machine design engineer for Hallmark Cards, Inc., where he conceptualized and implemented complex control systems for a range of manufacturing processes. He is admitted to practice in Illinois, Texas and the District of Columbia and registered to practice before the USPTO and the Federal Circuit and U.S. Supreme Courts.  

Spivey received his LL.M. in Intellectual Property from George Washington University Law School, his J.D., cum laude, from Thurgood Marshall School of Law and his B.S. in electrical engineering from Prairie View A&M University.
