BPSA's 4th Annual Summit to Focus on Risk-Management, Business Strategies for Single-Use Implementation
WASHINGTON, June 10, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Bio-Process Systems Alliance (BPSA) is pleased to announce the 4th annual International Single-Use Summit (ISUS 2014) will be held July 9-11, 2014, in Washington, D.C., with a primary focus on risk management and business strategies for implementation of single-use manufacturing technologies.
Speakers for this year's event will offer insight on the plastics supply chain, new markets for single-use biopharmaceutical manufacturing equipment, designing and building biomanufacturing venues tailored to single-use technologies, and a host of technical topics facing this fast-evolving industry.
"This unique coupling of technical and business topics is the key to the value of our program again this year," said Jerold Martin, Senior Vice President of Pall Life Sciences and Chairman of the BPSA board. "For component manufacturers, system integrators and users, the hurdles and accelerators of single-use biopharma manufacturing will be addressed in-depth, and we will take a look at market adoption trends and growth rates for the industry, which have tripled in the past five years."
Keynote speaker for the event is Tony Kingsbury, Founder and President of TKingsbury LLC. Drawing from lessons learned during his 30 years in the polymer industry, Kingsbury will share his perspective on challenges facing the plastics supply chain.
Other speakers are:
- Mark Bamforth, President and CEO of Gallus, a contract pharmaceutical manufacturer. Bamforth will offer Gallus's business perspective on its new single-use, modular approach to pharmaceutical manufacturing.
- Ohad Karnieli, Ph.D., VP of Development & Manufacturing, Pluristem Therapeutics, Inc., a leading developer of placenta-based cell therapies. Karnieli will discuss process and product development innovation in the single-use manufacturing of cell therapy and regenerative medicine products.
- Mark Shields, a nationally known columnist and commentator. With his trademark wit and wisdom, honed from 40 years of covering American politics, Shields will offer insight on today's headlines.
The Summit also includes three high-level panels that include adopters, integrators and quality experts from the user and supplier arena who will discuss and seek audience input on extractables and leachables standardized testing and reporting, and managing the single-use supply chain to insure reliability, transparency and change order control. Panelists will also provide an in-depth review of sources and control of particulates in single-use processes.
"The 2014 Summit is again a unique blend of business topics, political and economic insights, and technical perspectives that could impact the business of single-use, from both a user and supplier standpoint," said Kevin Ott, Executive Director of BPSA. "We have put together a program that will appeal to CEOs, quality directors, manufacturing VPs, systems integrators and vaccine and biopharma providers."
Additionally, BPSA will release two new technical guides at ISUS 2014:
- BPSA Particulates White Paper: Recommendations for Control, Testing and Evaluation of Particulates within Single-Use Process Equipment; and
- BPSA Consensus Quality Agreement Template for Single-Use Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing Products.
The event will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel Georgetown in Washington, D.C. The full Summit agenda, registration and hotel information can be viewed at http://www.bpsalliance.org/summit.html.
