PHOENIX, Oct. 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- BPL Plasma, one of the fastest growing plasma collection companies in the United States, is pleased to join the global community in recognizing International Plasma Awareness Week from October 8 – 14, 2017. During the week, the center will recognize the contributions of our donors – ordinary people with a passion for saving and improving lives, and raise awareness of the life-saving therapies created with plasma collected at this center and others like it throughout the USA.
The highlight of the week for the 45-bed donation center, located at 2320 E Bell Rd Suite 101, is an open house on October 9, serving breakfast from 7am to 12pm. The center will welcome both new and existing donors to the center to learn more about the plasma donation process and how every donation helps to create a future.
In order to donate plasma, potential donors must present a valid form of identification, affirming residence within 50 miles of the facility, and a copy of their social security number or another acceptable identification number.
Plasma collected from donors living in the local community is the essential component in certain therapeutics for patients around the world. Plasma-based medications are used to treat serious disorders such as hemophilia and immune system deficiencies, and to treat victims of shock and burn.
According to BPL Plasma, in addition to providing the plasma used in cutting-edge pharmaceutical therapies, each of our Plasma Collection Centers employs up to 70 people and infuses an estimated $3-5 million into the local economy every year, through fees paid to donors.
After a physical examination and a medical history performed on site, most healthy adults under the age of 65 can donate plasma. For first-time donors, the process usually lasts approximately two hours, though subsequent donations are faster. Plasma donors are compensated for their time, new donors can receive up to $50 for each donation, and BPL Plasma offers monthly promotions and several special incentive programs.
