Boxee Announces New TED App
Works on Boxee Downloadable App and Upcoming Boxee Box
Allows TV-Like Browsing of 750+ TEDTalks Videos
NEW YORK, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Boxee, a software company that marries web content to an intuitive TV-friendly interface, today announces the availability of a TED App for Boxee users, available now via Boxee's free downloadable application and soon to be available to users of the Boxee Box by D-Link this November.
Using an elegantly simple interface developed by Boxee in collaboration with TED, users can browse and discover TED's full database of nearly 800 informative, educational and inspiring TEDTalks. TED App users can browse TEDTalks using a mouse or the soon to be released Boxee remote, for a simple, television-like viewing experience.
Users can watch what's new or browse TEDTalks by themes -- such as Tales of Invention, A Greener Future, What's Next in Tech, Master Storytellers -- or by topic tags, such as Technology, Biology, Economics, Brain, Art. They can also choose talks based on length. Or they can simply hit the "Surprise Me" button, and discover a talk serendipitously.
"TED's mission is to spread ideas, and the Boxee TED App brings TEDTalks into the living room in a really effective new way," said June Cohen, Executive Producer of TED Media. "This collaboration with Boxee has allowed us to design, for the first time, a '10-foot experience' of watching TEDTalks. We think viewers are going to love the new navigation model, whether they're using their mouse or the new Boxee remote."
"TED is the quintessential example of the kind of web-only content that should be on TV," says Avner Ronen, CEO & co-founder of Boxee. "We're proud to be partnered with TED to help bring the amazing stories and ideas they share to the best screen in the house."
The TED App is part of a suite of informative apps available on Boxee, including NPR, NASA, FORA.tv, Open Courseware that complement Boxee's extensive library of 40,000 TV Show episodes and over 5,000 movies.
The app is available today via the App Library on Boxee's free, downloadable software.
