BowTie, Inc. Awarded Nine Editorial Excellence Awards
Canine Magazines and Books Honored by the Dog Writers Association of America and The Alliance of Purebred Dog Writers
IRVINE, Calif., March 3 /PRNewswire/ -- BowTie, Inc., the world's largest publisher of pet and animal magazines, received six Maxwell awards for editorial excellence at the 2009 annual Dog Writers Association of America (DWAA) awards ceremony and banquet in New York, N.Y., on February 14, 2009.
Additionally, BowTie was honored with three editorial awards at The Alliance of Purebred Dog Writers (APDW) the same day. The APDW is an organization dedicated to excellence in writing about purebred dogs and issues of interest to owners, breeders and others in the fancy.

Puppy Training Basics, part of the Popular Dogs® Gold Series took home the Maxwell medallion, DWAA's editorial excellence award, in the Magazine: yearbook/annual/special edition category.
BowTie contributor Susan McCullough won a Maxwell in the magazine category for an article breed profile with "The Dachsie Disposition," and Caroline Coile won in the magazine category for a feature in yearbook, annual, or special edition with "Socializing Sausages." Both appeared in the Popular Dogs Dachshunds issue.
In the Graphics category, photographer Frank Bruynbroek won a Maxwell for his photography series catalog for "Beauty in the Abandoned," which appeared in the March 2009 issue of Dog Fancy®.
Illustration Director Tom Kimball's artwork in "The View From Planet Chihuahua" in the Popular Dogs Chihuahua Puppies Magabook, won the Maxwell for Humorous Art. Additionally, Diane Morgan won the Humorous Writing category for her article "Yikes! Yorkies!," which appeared in the Popular Dogs Yorkshire Terriers issue.
Special award winners were also honored at DWAA. The Pet Sitters International First Canine Award was presented to Peter Gerstenzang for "Catch That Dog," which appeared in the January 2009 issue of Dog Fancy. Additionally, Eve Adamson was honored with the North Shore Animal League America® Award for an excerpt from her most recent book "Pets Gone Green," published by BowTie Press, a division of BowTie, Inc.
Other award winners at APDW include:
- The Arthur Frederick Jones Awards for Best Non-Fiction Book was won by "Dogs: The First 125 Years of the American Kennel Club," published by Kennel Club Books, a division of BowTie, Inc.
- BowTie Publications' Editor-in-Chief Allan Reznik was the recipient of the inaugural Hot Digital Dog Award for Best Web Column for DogChannel.com's "Dog Show Expert Q&A."
- The Captain Arthur J. Haggerty Award for Best Writing on Training was presented to freelancer Lisa Hanks for "Pit Bull Ambassadors," which appeared in Dog World® magazine. The winning article profiled the community of dog lovers who fought for the rehabilitation of Michael Vick's dogs.
