Bowie Resource Partners Announces Reductions at Bowie #2 Mine
LOUISVILLE, Ky., Sept. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Bowie Resource Partners, LLC ("BRP") announced today that its wholly owned subsidiary, Bowie Resources, LLC, will be scaling back production at its Bowie #2 mine near Paonia, Colorado as a result of idling its longwall while it develops a new longwall panel and continues to evaluate the market for Bowie #2 coal. BRP expects the new longwall panel to be fully developed in approximately twelve (12) months.
The Bowie #2 mine currently employs 181 full time employees and 19 contractors. "Some of the affected employees will be relocated where possible to fill vacancies in other parts of the business; however, layoffs are unfortunately unavoidable," said Gene E. DiClaudio, BRP's Chief Operating Officer. It is anticipated that 19 contractor and 78 full time positions will be eliminated.
BRP owns and operates three (3) underground coal mines in Utah and one (1) underground coal mine in Colorado and is the leading western bituminous coal producer, with 15.8 million tons of coal sales in the 2014 calendar year. BRP's mines produce clean-burning, low-sulfur thermal coal primarily for consumption by domestic power generators in Utah.
