CINCINNATI, March 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- This week, Procter & Gamble's (NYSE: PG) Bounty brand furthered its commitment to promote learning-by-doing. Cincinnati-area ninth-graders gained insider-insight from behind the paper towel brand's walls to build their real-world problem-solving skills. The five-day pilot program ran March 15-19, 2010 at Hughes STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) High School and P&G's offices in Cincinnati, growing Bounty's and Hughes STEM's shared commitment to education and future innovation.

The week-long program kicked off with students spending time with Bounty employees who shared perspective on their careers and conducted interactive product demonstrations to help the students understand the science behind papermaking. Later, students competed in a series of challenges to help learn fundamentals of scientific data collection and analysis. Students were also coached on life skills such as formulating project proposals and public speaking.
Teams of students developed proposals for the next "big idea" for Bounty, culminating in a presentation to Bounty leadership. Students' projects were judged on criteria such as content, organization and presentation of their ideas. Bounty leadership chose the winning team, comprised of Rina Prom, Joselynn Lee, Victor Kennedy, Derico Batson and Miranda Senteney, who received backpacks, trophies and certificates of achievement.
"At Bounty, we encourage learning-by-doing and see it as critical to fostering creativity, which leads to game-changing innovation over time," said Raj Pudipeddi, Procter & Gamble Marketing Director, Bounty. "The partnership with Hughes STEM High School is a unique opportunity to bring real world experiences into the classroom, helping to develop future innovation leaders within the local Cincinnati community and beyond."
P&G's involvement with Hughes STEM High School extends beyond this week's successful Bounty program. P&G collaborated with the University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati Public Schools, and other local partners in successfully seeking designation of Hughes as a STEM pilot school. P&G also provided leaders from its R&D organization to assist with curriculum development, as well as science equipment and laptops for incoming freshmen.
Hughes STEM High School is a special high school offering a new approach to education in Cincinnati, OH. Hughes STEM offers innovative programs and promotes economic progress by providing students with the knowledge and skills they need to pursue secondary opportunities and STEM careers.
