About Diacore Gaborone Marathon
Diacore Gaborone Marathon, Botswana's largest running for charity event.
Since title sponsor Diacore adopted the race in 2012 it has grown from 3,000 to well over 5,000 participants with over a million Pula being awarded to over 30 deserving charities by Diacore in conjunction with co-sponsors Stanbic, Mascom and GIA. One of the most notable contributions of the marathon has been the 400,000 Pula donated to the Gaborone Squash Club, which has gone a long way in allowing the club the much needed resources to completely renovate their facilities.
The Diacore Gaborone Marathon has always been a supporter very keen of a holistic approach to national sports and athletics development and the squash club is a perfect testament to this. The relationship is a real world example of synergy between different sporting codes and a shining example of how two initiatives that are geared towards health and wellness can work together to achieve so much more than they could individually.
The marathon also encourages the general public to come out and support the runners on race day as well as share in all the festivities at the Grand Palm.
All proceeds from the Diacore Gaborone Marathon are awarded to charity and as such Diacore and its co-sponsors are proud to support Botswana through sport, education and charity. In 2014 we raised a record breaking P615,000.00, this year we look to do even better than that. Thanks for all runners and sponsors for their continued support.
