Boston Biomotion and the Hospital for Special Surgery Global Innovation Institute Partner to Transform Strength Training and Recovery
NEW YORK, March 23, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), the global leader in musculoskeletal health, and Boston Biomotion, a NY-based technology startup developing a robotic performance training and rehabilitation platform, today announced their partnership to advance the field of human performance and injury recovery. As an HSS Innovation Partner, Boston Biomotion gains access to expert insight of leaders from the Global Innovation Institute, Performance Training, Rehabilitation, and Motion Analysis teams, as well as clinicians and researchers.
The relationship, developed as part of the HSS Global Innovation Institute model for working with early stage companies in order to translate HSS knowledge into innovation, includes co-development of the hardware and software platforms, consultation on content and protocols for use with the platform, introduction to other stakeholders, and an onsite pilot to help the company understand commercialization and scaling of the product.
Boston Biomotion is building a smart physical assessment and functional strength-training tool in a single device that produces real time, objective, and automated performance and strength measurements while providing dynamic resistance independent of gravity.
"HSS has a long history of pioneering innovations that impact patient care and experience," said Leonard Achan RN, MA, ANP, Chief Innovation Officer at HSS. "We look forward to working on continued co-development and knowledge transfer with Boston Biomotion's team that supports the creation of new and viable healthcare solutions."
The novel hardware coupled with software and machine learning provides advanced data analytics including a unique way to quantify strength for complex movements. This approach allows athletes, physical therapy patients, and any active individual to truly personalize training, exercise and rehabilitation.
"We are honored to work closely with this world-class institution and team," said Sam Miller, founder and CEO of Boston Biomotion. "As innovation partners, we look forward to developing valuable solutions that improve human performance, the understanding of physical strength, and the treatment efficiency of rehab, exercise, and sport training for both the individual and care-provider."
