BorgWarner Named Exclusive Fan and Fan Drive Supplier for the New Freightliner Cascadia®
- Sole supplier on all engines for Freightliner's most popular over-the-road truck
- One of the most efficient systems available
- Modular design for easy maintenance and lower cost of ownership
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., June 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- BorgWarner has achieved exclusive status as a supplier of fans and fan drives for Freightliner's new Cascadia® model, its most popular over-the-road truck. BorgWarner technology is now the only available option on 2017 Detroit™ DD13®, DD15® and DD16® engines as well as the 2017 Cummins ISX15. Whether on or off, BorgWarner's fan and fan drive optimize airflow for greater efficiency and fuel economy.
"BorgWarner engineers thoroughly understand the operating conditions for on-highway vehicles. The combination of our 6-blade fan and proven on/off fan drive delivers benchmark efficiency and noise reduction. Trucking fleets will appreciate improved fuel economy as well as its modular, low-maintenance design," said Joe Fadool, President and General Manager, BorgWarner Emissions & Thermal Systems. "We are very excited to reach this elite level of partnership with Freightliner. This is a testament to BorgWarner's unmatched on-highway product performance and reliability."
Class 8 commercial trucks typically use a fan with up to 11 blades. However, when driving on a flat highway with the fan drive disengaged, the high number of blades actually blocks air flowing through the radiator. Using proprietary design tools, BorgWarner engineers designed a 6-blade fan with optimized blade geometry. Even with fewer blades, the fan delivers effective cooling when the fan drive is engaged and allows greater airflow when it is disengaged.
BorgWarner's on/off fan drives provide superior torque capacity for reliable, efficient cooling when needed and switch off when it is not. That means more power to the wheels, better fuel economy, lower emissions and longer fan drive life. Featuring a modular design for easy maintenance, BorgWarner's removable friction liner can be replaced while the fan drive is still mounted to the truck, and the clutch unit can be replaced without removing the hub assembly.
