Borders Launches Book Drive to Benefit Needy Kids in Communities Nationwide

ANN ARBOR, Mich., July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Borders has launched a company-wide summer book drive with the goal of increasing children's literacy.

During the previous company-sponsored book drive held in March, Borders stores partnered with hundreds of charities and nonprofits, and through the generosity of customers, delivered more than 600,000 titles and 85,000 stuffed toys to kids in need.

For the current book drive, which lasts through August 30, Borders stores have partnered with such local and national organizations as Reach Out and Read Michigan, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Rainbow House in Chicago, Raising a Reader Massachusetts, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego and many others. Over the course of the book drive, store associates will encourage customers to donate enriching books including titles from the Junie B. Jones, Magic Treehouse and Ramona and Beezus series, as well as a number of picture books for very young readers.

Borders has a long-standing history of giving back to the communities it serves. In addition to hosting book drives throughout the year, and supporting military personnel and educators with generous discounts, the company also donates non-returnable, unsold items from stores to local charities through its partnership with Gifts In Kind.
