Booz Allen to Sponsor National Museum of American History's "September 11: Remembrance and Reflection," Marking Tenth Anniversary of Attacks on America
MCLEAN, Va., June 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Booz Allen Hamilton (NYSE: BAH) will sponsor the National Museum of American History's presentation "September 11: Remembrance and Reflection" marking the 10-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks with a display of artifacts from that day available for viewing September 3 through 11, the company announced.
More than 50 objects from the three sites of the attacks—New York, the Pentagon and Shanksville, Pa.—will be on display, as well as recent acquisitions related to how American lives have changed since then. To create an intimate experience for visitors, the objects will be shown on tables rather than behind glass cases, and visitors will be encouraged to speak with museum staff who will be present at the event. Artifacts will include airplane fragments, a door from a crushed FDNY fire truck, a Pentagon map from the building's second floor and objects recovered from offices. Photographs from the museum's collection will provide a context for each site.
"Ten years later, our nation will pause to remember the incredible losses of September 11, which included the loss of three Booz Allen employees who were working at the Pentagon," said Senior Vice President Christopher Kelly, who oversees the firm's homeland security business. "As we reflect, this display of objects will help remind us how Americans came together to support one another after the attacks, the incredible valor of our first responders, and the progress our country has made to better protect our safety and bring to justice those who attacked us."
"Remembrance and Reflection" is the latest in a series of Washington, D.C. museum programs sponsored by Booz Allen, including last year's highly popular Norman Rockwell exhibit at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and an earlier exhibition of the art of Edward Hopper at the National Gallery of Art.
"Museums bring us together to learn, think, imagine and reflect, and Booz Allen is proud to support this event as an opportunity for the public to remember and express their thoughts on one of the most defining events of our time," added Kelly.
The museum is the official repository for Sept. 11 materials, with objects, photographs and documents preserved permanently in the museum's collections to help future generations of historians and visitors comprehend the horrific events, their roots and their long-term consequences.
