HOUSTON, March 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The men and women of our military make enormous sacrifices every day to serve and protect their country. One of the most heartbreaking of these sacrifices is having to be away from loved ones for months – or years – at a time. Losing a family member while deployed overseas is a tragedy few can fathom, but for one solider, this tragedy became a reality and local non-profit Boots For Troops (BFT) felt compelled to do everything in their power to help.
U.S. Army SPC Cadence Davie contacted BFT through their Warrior Morale Project and told them her story.
"I am currently deployed in Iraq and received a Red Cross message because my mother passed away suddenly," she wrote.
Davie needed something that the military could not provide – assistance with travel in order to attend her mother's funeral once they got her stateside. She went on to explain that she was in need of money for a rental car and gas in order to make the roughly 950-mile drive from North Carolina to Rhode Island to her mother's hometown where she was being laid to rest. Funeral costs had already taken a serious toll on her and her family.
Boots For Troops immediately set up a van rental and sent multiple gas cards to ensure that Davie, and her family, could make the drive to Rhode Island together to say their final goodbyes – something that no one, under any circumstances, should have to miss.
Cadence describes her experience with BFT:
"My family and I are incredibly thankful for Boots For Troops... My roommate told me about Boots For Troops and I got in contact with them and they payed for travel to and from and they also payed for gas. We are so incredibly thankful for BFT for helping us so much… during such a hard time. They were also caring and compassionate the entire time we spoke to them; they often checked in on my family during our travels; they genuinely cared about me and my family, and we are so blessed to have found them and received help from them."
Cadence Davie is the 53rd service member that BFT's Warrior Morale Project has been able to provide travel assistance for since foundation in 2015 and the organization aims to continue bringing military families together and proving to U.S. troops that they and their supporters will always stand behind those who stand in front for them.
