Bonsall West Elementary School Awarded $5,000 Barona Education Grant For Technology Tools
Barona Education Grant program has awarded $3.2 million to schools statewide
SAN DIEGO, Nov. 2, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Barona Band of Mission Indians has awarded students and teachers at Bonsall West Elementary School a $5,000 Barona Education Grant. The public school, located in Oceanside in San Diego's North County, will use the grant to purchase 19 Chromebooks, 20 Headphones and two iPads to update the school's technology.
"I am proud to work with the Barona Band of Mission Indians in their quest to provide a 21st century education to our young students through their amazing education grant program," said Assemblyman Rocky Chavez. "This grant will provide students more opportunities to connect with emerging technologies in the classroom!"
Since the Barona Education Grant program was launched in 2006, Barona has awarded over $3.2 million to California schools statewide. The program has equipped 641 schools with hundreds of computers, thousands of books, iPads, computer software programs and various other technologies and school supplies.
Barona Tribal Vice-Chairman Raymond Welch presented the $5,000 check to the school's principal Tina Calabrese and students.
"Bonsall West Elementary school's mission is to inspire everyone to do their best, be respectful, work hard, think of others and dream big," said Chairman Edwin "Thorpe" Romero of the Barona Band of Mission Indians. "Our Tribe is proud to provide the funds that will help to make those big dreams a reality by providing all students an equal opportunity to learn new skills through technology."
The Barona Education Grant program is the first of its kind in California created and administered by a Tribal Government. The goal of the program is to create strong educational opportunities for the children of California building upon the success of the Barona Indian Charter School, which operates under a continuous improvement model. Schools throughout California can apply for educational grants from Barona to purchase much-needed supplies and materials that promote academic improvement.
