Company earns fourth consecutive year of recognition for protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency
CHICAGO, April 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing (NYSE: BA) will receive an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the company's continued leadership in protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency.
Boeing is among 16 ENERGY STAR Partners of the Year in the Industrial category for sustained excellence to be honored by the EPA during an awards ceremony on April 29 in Washington, D.C.
"Our fourth consecutive year of recognition by ENERGY STAR acknowledges this team's hard work toward continuing to improve the environmental performance of our operations, while at the same time raising our production rates to record levels," said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jim McNerney. "This is thanks not only to the investments we are making to run facilities more efficiently but also to the efforts of employees who are making energy-conscious decisions every day, both in the workplace and at home."
Through 2013, with help from ENERGY STAR, U.S. businesses have prevented more than 2.1 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. Boeing has received the ENERGY STAR Award each year since 2011 and reached the Sustained Excellence level in 2013.
"Boeing has earned EPA's highest ENERGY STAR award – the 2014 Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award – because of its unwavering commitment to energy efficiency," said EPA Deputy Administrator Bob Perciasepe.
From 2007 to 2012, Boeing reduced its energy consumption by 3 percent on an absolute basis, the equivalent of energy to power 44,000 U.S. homes for a year. Last year, the company set new targets of zero growth for greenhouse gas emissions by 2017.
Award winners are selected from the 16,000 organizations that participate in the ENERGY STAR program. Learn more about Boeing's environmental leadership at www.boeing.com/environment.
