Bobby Genovese's Miss Canada IV and Miss Miami V Take Top Honors at Ontario Boat Show
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, July 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Miss Canada IV took top honors at the 34th Annual Antique and Classic Boat Show in Gravenhurst, Ontario on Saturday, July 5, 2014 winning the "Best of Show Restored" award, while Miss Miami V won second place in front of a sell out crowd that was on hand to celebrate "Every Boat has a Story."
"It was the thrill of a lifetime to showcase these newly-restored racing treasures in front of such an enthusiastic and appreciative crowd," said owner Bobby Genovese, of his BG Vintage Racing Team winners that took two of the event's 25 awards.
The show also marked the debut of Genovese's world record-holder, Miss Miami V, and official entry into the North American Vintage Race boat circuit.
The weekend was highlighted by an unprecedented display of more than 130 antique and classic boats spanning 96 years of Canadian and American boat building. Many of the boats were built in the Muskoka area including, Miss Canada IV, which was built in Gravenhurst by the Greavette Boats Limited in 1949.
"These great classics deserve a second chance, as do the people who come out in droves to witness them," said BG Vintage Racing Team Manager, Jamie Smith, who also heads Genovese's BG Vintage Race Boat and Antique Boat Museum, which is expected to be completed next year. In addition to featuring the iconic Rambler, the 70-foot, 1903 Polson Iron Works Yacht, and now, Miss Miami V, the museum includes Miss Canada III, Miss Canada IV, and Pistoff, the 1960, 970-horsepower Vic Carpenter custom runabout.
The Rambler will make her debut at the Muskoka Lakes Association Show in Port Carling on August 9 following a two year restoration by Brackley Boats, along with Miss Canada IV, Miss Canada III and Miss Miami V. Norm Woods, Miss Canada IV's driver, and Harry Wilson, the son of the original race team of Harold and Lorna Wilson, will be in attendance along with Genovese and Smith. Woods is a member of the Canadian Boating Federation Hall of Fame and a world-racing champion having won the World Championship in Can Am flat bottom boats in 1988 and the North American Championship from 1990 to 1993.
