Board Elections Set to Begin for Arches Health Plan
SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 29, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Arches Health Plan, one of the first non-profit Co-Op health plans in the U.S., announced today that there would be a Board of Directors election held in November. Three Arches members will be chosen, from among their peers, to help govern the non-profit health plan.
"We are excited to see the first ever election of Co-Op members to serve on the Arches Health Plan Board of Directors," said Mickey Braun, Arches Chairman of the Board. "The Arches model of a member governed non-profit health insurer is a first of its kind in Utah, and we feel it will help us meet the needs of our members over time."
The current Board of Directors, consisting of various individuals with backgrounds in health policy, will be replaced through multiple elections over the next two years. The last member of the "start-up" Board is required to be replaced by the beginning of January 2016.
Arches believes it's non-profit, member-governed, business model will be a catalyst for cost transparency, and continuous innovation to the Utah health insurance market. As the only new health plan in nearly twenty years, Arches is poised to bring a competitive edge to a market that hasn't seen change in several decades. "Co-Ops are meant to offer consumer-friendly, affordable health insurance options to individuals and small businesses," said Lorena Riffo-Jensen, Arches Vice President of Government Affairs, Outreach, and Business Development.
Arches Health Plan has already introduced many innovations to the market. They are the first health plan in Utah to compensate providers for phone, and telemedicine consultations. Now patients have the option of connecting with their doctor from the privacy of their own home. Arches also introduced a deductible waiver for accidents, a safety net provided with most plans that allows members to bypass the deductible in case an accident strikes.
