NEW YORK, May 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- BNY Mellon and the New York University Polytechnic School of Engineering announced that BNY Mellon has selected the NYU School of Engineering to provide an online master's degree education in cyber security for select BNY Mellon employees worldwide.
The global investments company is the most recent Fortune 500 firm to enhance the skills of its technical and management employees through the NYU School of Engineering's online master's degree program. The school's online unit provides highly demanding advanced studies to more than 1,500 students from notable global firms in the telecommunications, information technology, financial services, consulting and defense industries, among others.
"BNY Mellon's continuous focus and drive towards strengthening global cyber security corporate controls is a necessity in today's era of rapid change, increasing threats and fierce competition. We are proud to create this relationship with the NYU School of Engineering and offer our workforce the cyber security education and skills needed to develop their own fulfilling careers and enhance the firm's overall information risk management posture," said Lisa Humbert, executive vice president and chief information risk officer for BNY Mellon.
As with all master's degree courses offered through the NYU School of Engineering Enterprise Learning unit, corporate students must qualify academically for enrollment, and once they are accepted, they join other students in the school's rigorous master's degree course of study.
To provide remote students the same opportunities as those on campus, the school created a virtual cyber security laboratory, known as VITAL, where students perform virtual, hands-on experiments to reinforce concepts delivered during online lectures. Online students also participate in real-time and e-discussions, stimulated by chat, texting, forums, and other media. A dedicated "success manager" helps them adapt to their online environment. Technical support is available around the clock. U.S. News & World Report ranks the NYU School of Engineering 12th among the Best Online Graduate Engineering Programs, and the Sloan Consortium previously named the school's cyber security program the outstanding online graduate program.
"Working with BNY Mellon is a highly visible acknowledgement from one of the world's leading investment firms that the NYU School of Engineering provides mission-critical instruction to front-line managers and technical personnel in a flexible, worldwide, virtual environment," said Robert Ubell, vice dean of online learning.
