BNBuilders to Take on "Summer Sprint" Renovation at UCSD Tuolumne Apartments

$7.3 Million Historic Renovation to Be Completed in 70 Days

SAN DIEGO, April 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- BNBuilders has been recently selected as the general contractor by the University of California San Diego (UCSD) for the Tuolumne Apartments Fire/Life Safety Renovations at campus in La Jolla, CA. Designed by Heritage Architecture & Planning, the $7.3 million renovation will take into account state historic preservation objectives. This is not BNBuilders' first time challenged with completing similar fast-track projects. In recent years, BNBuilders has also completed summer sprint projects for UCSD Tenaya Hall Fire/Life Safety Upgrades, UCSD Blake Hall Fire/Life Safety Upgrades, UCSD York Hall Laboratory Renovations, UCI Mesa Court 3 Dormitory Renovations, and CSU Long Beach Los Cerritos Dormitory Renovations.

Located in Muir College on the UCSD campus, the Tuolumne Apartments were built in 1975, and consist of nine (9) concrete interconnected buildings ranging from three to five stories totaling approximately 89,000 square feet. They are home to student residences, student lounges, laundry facilities, utility rooms, and the Muir Residential Life Office. The primary objective is to provide code-compliant fire and life safety systems, exterior structural repairs, new balcony rails, mechanical/electrical/plumbing upgrades, new roof system, and ensure ADA compliance for the safety of the students who reside in these facilities. The project is designed to achieve LEED Silver Certification. This summer sprint project will be built in just 10 weeks while the students are on summer break.
