Female Construction Manager Takes on Complex Life Science Center for Alexandria Real Estate

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- BNBuilders recently recruited Melanie Ziemniak, LEED AP, DBIA Associate as a Project Manager. Among the less than nine percent (9%) of women who make up the construction workforce (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2014 data), this trailblazer is taking on one of BNBuilders' highest profile projects in San Diego, the new 60,000 square foot lab/office building for Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. A highly-educated leader, Ms. Ziemniak is one of several key personnel additions to BNBuilders in recent months.

Ms. Ziemniak has over 25 years of experience managing complex projects costing up to $75 million, including new construction, renovations, tenant improvements, and campus additions. She has extensive experience with fast track projects which have complex phasing, renovations within occupied facilities, MEP systems, and specialized equipment. Her past work includes more than a dozen projects throughout San Diego for clients such as Sharp Healthcare, Palomar Pomerado Health, Skyline Hills Branch Library, and UCSD. Ms. Ziemniak earned her B.A. in Communication from Arizona State University and her M.S. in Executive Leadership from the University of San Diego.

As a Project Manager with BNBuilders, Ms. Ziemniak is actively involved during preconstruction, working with the design team to manage the budget, alternative analysis, constructability reviews, scheduling and phasing, procurement strategy, and overall project management. During construction, she is on-site full time managing the entire construction process including team communications, cost and schedule control, document control, quality and safety requirements, and administration.
