BM&FBOVESPA Celebrates with Petrobras the Largest Share Offering in History
Exchange announces second place in global market capitalization ranking
Brazilian Exchange reaches R$ 30.4 billion, 25% larger than the New York and London exchanges and Nasdaq combined
SAO PAULO, Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- BM&FBOVESPA held a celebration on Friday, September 24, to commemorate the Petrobras share offering, which has already reached R$ 115 billion – the largest by any company in the history of capitalism. The Brazilian exchange also took advantage of this historic event to announce that since the end of trading on Thursday it has become the second-largest in the world in terms of market capitalization, reaching R$ 30.4 billion (US$ 17.7 billion). This is 25% higher than New York and London Exchanges and Nasdaq combined. "The value of our Exchange is linked to the growth potential for the country and its companies and is the result of the operation that we are celebrating today," said BM&FBOVESPA CEO Edemir Pinto.

"Brazil is proud of Brazil," he added. Also present at the event were Vice-President of Brazil Jose Alencar; Finance Minister Guido Mantega and Mines and Energy Minister Marcio Zimmermann; as well as Petrobras CEO Jose Sergio Gabrielli de Azevedo. As of Monday (September 27) stock from the Petrobras share offering will be traded on BM&FBOVESPA.
