Blue Sky Network celebrates the beginning of an exciting new era in satellite communications
LA JOLLA, Calif., Jan. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Blue Sky Network would like to congratulate Iridium Communications, our long-term strategic partner, on the successful launch of the ten Iridium NEXT satellites deployed into low-Earth orbit on January 14, 2017. The launch truly ushers in a new era of global connectivity through this next generation of satellite communications.
The new low-Earth orbiting satellite network provides increased processing power, data transmission speeds, reliability of coverage, and lower latency. This network upgrade will increase the data transmission capabilities to speeds ranging from 3G to broadband (1.5 Mbps). This will ensure greater connectivity and bandwidth for all regions on Earth's surface – even outside of other satellite and cellular networks, across oceans and in remote polar regions. In the past, many of these regions would be without coverage but this new constellation, combined with redundancies across the network and secure, dedicated ground infrastructure, will allow for uninterrupted coverage even during natural disasters such as hurricanes, tsunamis, and earthquakes that typically compromise traditional terrestrial communication infrastructure. This represents the largest technology upgrade in the history of satellite communications.
As a Tier-1 Iridium partner, Blue Sky Network's ecosystem leverages the Iridium constellation of 66 low-Earth orbit satellites to offer true global connectivity for voice and data communications. In conjunction with SkyRouter, our industry-leading fleet management and operations portal, our products have helped our customers with tracking and managing the operations of their aviation, marine, land and mobile assets anywhere in the world.
This historic Iridium NEXT deployment represents an exciting step forward in ensuring that our comprehensive tracking solutions will not only continue to provide the highest level of safety, security and operational efficiency to any global fleet operation but also help enhance the utilization of real-time and historical analytics for our end users.
Six more launches are scheduled over the next 18 months to replace Iridium's existing global satellite constellation, the largest currently in space. The second Iridium NEXT launch, scheduled for April 2017, will deploy another ten satellites following testing to validate the performance requirements of the first satellites launched into orbit. The entire satellite network is on target to be completed in 2018. As an industry partner dedicated to the success of Iridium NEXT, Blue Sky Network will be providing continual updates regarding any new developments of the network upgrade as well as the new products and services that we will be offering to our customers all over the world.
