Blue Cross Blue Shield Texas Launches "Be Covered Texas" Campaign to Raise Awareness of Individual Health Insurance Enrollment Options
RICHARDSON, Texas, March 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) today launched a statewide education and outreach initiative targeting Texas' uninsured residents. The Be Covered Texas campaign, which will be fully funded by BCBSTX and supported by various community and civic groups, will focus on helping the state's uninsured population understand how the new health care law impacts them and what steps they need to take to gain access to individual health insurance. The enrollment period for uninsured Texans opens in October, with health care plans beginning in January 2014.
The Be Covered Texas campaign will work with established community groups, civic organizations, schools, religious institutions and doctors to offer educational materials and guidance in both English and Spanish to help Texans navigate the changes ahead. It includes a website, www.becoveredtexas.org, that will have information about insurance coverage, benefits plan options, and important requirements of the new Federal health care law. As the deadline for purchasing individual insurance approaches, the website will help guide Texans through the enrollment process.
"As a customer-owned organization, BCBSTX has been a leader in helping bring affordable, quality coverage to as many people as possible. Our mission is to expand access to health care in Texas, and to educate uninsured consumers about their coverage choices," said Bert Marshall, president of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. "As part of Be Covered Texas, we are looking forward to sharing information with our community partners and reaching out to new partners as we seek to help guide uninsured Texans through the changes ahead."
The health care marketplace, or exchange, will provide an online marketplace for consumers to shop and compare health insurance plans based on price, benefits, services and quality. BCBSTX plans to offer coverage through the exchange marketplace in addition to its current portfolio of policy offerings.
