BOSTON, Nov. 14, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (Blue Cross) has been named best in the nation for its Medicare Advantage plan and Medicare Part D plan by U.S. News & World Report, making the company one of only two health plans in the country to earn top marks in both categories. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts is the largest health plan in Massachusetts and is a tax-paying not-for-profit insurer.

U.S. News created its ratings as a resource for seniors and their families to use as they search for Medicare coverage during the annual open enrollment period, which began October 15 and runs through December 7, 2018.

U.S. News's state-by-state ratings are based on data released by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts earned honors because its Medicare Advantage and Part D plans have average CMS ratings of 4.5 or better.
For the third year in a row, Blue Cross Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts' Prescription Drug plan earned 5 out of 5 stars from CMS, making it the top-rated individual PDP plan in New England.i The company's Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO plans were also highly rated at 4.5 out of 5 stars.i
