Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois "Tickled Pink" to Sponsor Golf Fundraiser Benefitting Breast Cancer Fund
SPRINGFIELD, Ill., June 5, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) is proud to be the In the Pink Sponsor of the "Play for the Cure" golf outing this Saturday, June 8th, at Brookhills Golf Club in Springfield.
The fundraiser features golfing, lunch, awards and a cocktail party, but with a twist – it's a women-only event that will be staffed only by men!
"Play for the Cure" benefits the local affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure™, which supports breast cancer education, treatment and research.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois is committed to improving the health and wellness of residents across Illinois and funding this event is one way to impact the lives of residents in the state where our almost 9,000 employees live, work and play.
Mike Mannion, BCBSIL vice-president of government relations, a longtime Springfield resident who lost his own father to cancer, explained, "Women in the United States – our mothers, daughters, sisters and friends – have a 12 percent lifetime risk of getting breast cancer." That's simply unacceptable. We at Blue Cross are proud to partner with organizations working to kick cancer to the curb."
