Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois spreads holiday cheer to Springfield area agencies
SPRINGFIELD Ill., Dec. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) announced today that it has presented nine Springfield area organizations with holiday checks totaling more than $9,000 to help support their missions. Michael Mannion, vice president of BCBSIL's government relations in Springfield said, "It's a small gesture we make on behalf of the 1,100-plus Blue Cross employees who call Springfield and Sangamon County home. These important agencies support our friends, families and neighbors just as they do for the rest of our community."

BCBSIL also provided a $1,000 holiday season gift to the Lawrence Hall Youth Services in Chicago, as well as supporting the Greater Chicago Food Depository. In 2012, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois provided financial support to Illinois organizations and social service agencies totaling more than $8.3 million, and included grants and financial support to a total of 42 Springfield-based organizations.
