Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois Employees Volunteer more than 39,000 Hours
One Highlight of 2014 Social Responsibility Report
CHICAGO, April 7, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) employees doubled the number of hours they volunteered in their communities in 2014 to 39,001 hours That's up from 19,319 hours in 2013. Employees at offices in Chicago, Jacksonville, Rockford and other sites around the state touched many lives by donating their time with activities such as making beds at homeless shelters, packing supplies for Veterans and helping build playgrounds.
BCBSIL's commitment to volunteerism is one of the highlights of the just-released 2014 Social Responsibility Report, which can be found online at www.bcbsil2014srr.com.
The report also highlights BCBSIL'S on-going financial commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of our communities. In 2014, Blue Cross invested $11.2 million in nearly 500 community organizations that focus on disease prevention and management, coordination of medical care, access to care, as well as education and outreach. Some of our major investments are the sponsorship of Divvy, Chicago's bike sharing program and programs that target some of the most pressing health needs in our communities, like diabetes.
