Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida to Help Small Businesses Secure Health Care Reform Tax Credit

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Sept. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida (BCBSF) is launching a health insurance Small Business Tax Credit program for small business decision-makers to help them take advantage of the health care tax credit opportunity created by the new health care reform law.

BCBSF is partnering with H&R Block® to provide an online calculator in which small businesses can estimate their business' potential savings from the Health Care Reform Small Business Tax Credit. To help small businesses to understand the tax credit, BCBSF will be offering a number of online webinars and seminars at the Florida Blue centers – Tampa, Miami, Jacksonville, and Winter Park – to small business owners. These sessions are free and will feature H&R Block tax professionals.

As part of the new health care reform law, many small businesses with less than 25 employees may qualify for a tax credit––up to 35 percent of their premium costs. The tax credit is an incentive to help small businesses start or continue to offer and pay for employee health coverage.

BCBSF is currently reaching out to small businesses to inform them about the tax credit and the small group health insurance solutions that BCBSF offers including BlueOptions®, BlueSelect® or Miami-Dade Blue(SM).  

To qualify for the tax credit, small businesses must...

• Have less than 25 full-time employees (or its equivalent)
• Have an average annual salary of less than $50,000
• Pay at least 50% of its employees' premiums
